Who would have anticipated the impact COVID-19 would have on us all? These past few weeks have posed new challenges for each of us. What we do know is that self-quarantining is absolutely essential for the health and well-being of you and your loved ones, which is why we put together a Jackie approved list of things to do at home! Now is the time to get creative with the way you go about your day to day life. While there are challenges to being at home, use this time to make a positive impact in your life and in the lives of those around you.

SELF CARE

Self care can often be overlooked when there aren’t enough hours in the day. Thankfully, you may have more time to give yourself some extra TLC. It is crucial to be mindful of your health and well-being during these high stress times, so be sure to create a self-care routine that works for you.

Treat your home as your oasis. Use this time to delve into a self care routine that helps you feel relaxed and anxiety free. Here is what we recommend:

  • Draw a Bath: For the ladies who don’t think they have time for a bubble bath, there are no excuses! Click here to shop our favorite, Dr Teals Lavender Bubble Bath.

  • Do a Nighttime Face Mask: Rather than washing your face and jumping into bed, take the time to add an additional step to your evening skincare routine. Reach for a face mask to hydrate and renew your skin. Our favorite? Any of the Orgaid Sheet Masks.

  • Paint Your Nails: While the salon might not be open, that doesn’t mean your nails have to suffer the consequences. Reach for a color you haven’t used in a while and treat yourself to an at home manicure. We love a classic, deep red from Essie.  If you are used to getting dip or gel polish at the salon, try Static pop on nails that can be delivered to your house.

FITNESS

Even though gyms are closed, your physical health should not be neglected. At-home workouts are great motivation and we have some favorites for you to try.

  • Alive App: We love Whitney Simmons workouts and her app makes it even easier to get your daily workout in. She focuses on HIIT workouts, a great way to get your heart pumping!

  • Yoga by Adrienne: If you are looking to improve your flexibility and boost your immunity while at home, consider browsing Adrienne’s collection of yoga videos for all different ability levels.

  • Blogilates: If you love pilates, we highly recommend doing an online workout with Cassey Ho. She even has a 14 Day Quarantine Workout Plan!

READ A BOOK

How lucky are we that we can still work and learn from the comfort of our own homes. Now is the time to pick up a good book and get reading. We recommend:

  • Girl Wash Your Face: If you don’t know about Rachel Hollis by now, it’s time you order her book on Amazon and get reading! She focuses on female empowerment and being your best self. Who doesn’t need more of that?

  • Capital Gaines: If you are a Fixer Upper and Magnolia fan, it’s time you read Chip Gaines’ book. It focuses on business, relationships, family and the delicate act of balancing it all.

  • The Financial Diet: If you are looking for practical and helpful budgeting tips, get down to business with this informational read.

  • Just Jessie: My Guide to Love, Life, Family and Food: Jessie James Decker gives you a behind the scenes look at her life, her family and most importantly, her kitchen.

GET CREATIVE

Do not neglect your hobbies. This is a great opportunity for them to flourish. It will keep you busy and inspired.

  • Journal: Journaling can be a great way to step back and get some perspective. Consider writing from 19 Journaling Prompts to Help You Create Your Dream Life.

  • Start a Garden: While you can’t go far outside your home, you can start a small garden, Follow These 10 Steps to a Magnificent Garden. Even if it’s just starting by growing your own herbs to use in your kitchen.

  • Paint: Whether it be painting a room in your house that needs a fresh coat, or picking up a canvas and some watercolors, don’t forget to allow yourself a creative outlet.

  • Clean Your Kitchen: We don’t just mean disinfect those countertops. Reorganize your cabinets so baking and cooking is a simple, seamless experience.

  • Bake: Whether you love to bake or you are just getting started, baking with family can be a great way to pass the time. Plus, it usually involves something sweet to share with the family!

  • Spring Clean Your Closet: At Jackie, this is one of our favorite activities. Use this extra time at home to clean out your wardrobe. It’s time to create space for new pieces! Click here for a little added guidance from Jackie.

FOR THE COUPLES

Creating date nights at home is possible. Use this extra time at home to connect with your partner.

  • Cook a Romantic Dinner: Light some candles, cook something together and simply enjoy each other’s company. Bring out your wedding album or old photos to reminisce on past adventures.

  • Stargaze: Use a stargazing app like Star Walk 2- Night Sky Map to help you identify constellations. Take the time to pause and appreciate nature together.

  • Movie Night: If you have a projector close by, reach for that and sheet and set up an outdoor movie for the night. If it’s still chilly where you are, curl up on the couch and watch an old favorite movie together.

  • Help Neighbors in Need: Create care packages for elderly neighbors and deliver them at their doorstep. Doing random acts of kindness with one another is sure to boost your spirits.

FOR THE FAMILIES

There has never been a better time to take advantage of family time. Your kids may no longer be able to attend school, sports practice or after school activities, but this time at home with the entire family is a great opportunity to continue to build upon critical thinking skills while spending quality time with one another.

  • An Outdoor Scavenger Hunt: A scavenger hunt outdoors can be fun, especially when there is an incentive, an extra scoop of ice cream perhaps? If you need some inspiration when creating the hunt, try these 40 Scavenger Hunt Riddles.

  • Board Games + Puzzles: Both activities are great ways to get the family involved and chatting about something fun and mindless. Turn off the news and enjoy games as a family.

  • Cook Together: Find some simple recipes, like these One-Bite Appetizers to make together. You can even make these before game night!

  • Build a Fort: Let’s face it. You are never too old to build a fort! Get the whole family together and have a fort building competition.

Whether you are spending quarantine alone, with your significant other, or as a family we hope that you all remain safe and healthy in these unknown times. Above all else, remember to stay positive and enjoy the company of those around you. This season is one where we can refocus and reconnect with our loved ones.
